As well as there being many types of tennis surface - clay, grass, all weather, and so on - there are also many different variations of synthetic tennis court surface. The carpets used will come from numerous suppliers and even countries, with different pile heights, densities and infill (if applicable). Although the playing characteristics will vary from system to system, the ultimate aim - to achieve a consistent level of performance - is paramount.

The most common problems experienced are contamination of the courts due to lack of ongoing maintenance. The first tell-tale signs of this are silt-like deposits usually on the outer edges of the courts where play is less pronounced. At this stage, specialist brushing techniques, such as the Revite will help to decontaminate the surface. If left, further deterioration will occur until the only course of action will be Rejeneration of the court. This involves using a patented compressed air system which extracts the infill and re-opens the carpet pile before being redressed with new aggregate. This process, although expensive, brings the carpet back to an 'as new' condition at a fraction of the cost of resurfacing.

Another common problem is premature wearing which occurs in the high wear areas of the court - normally the baseline areas. This will put pressure on any joints and seams, and specialist repair should be carried out as soon as possible both from a health and safety point of view and to stop worsening of the area. Where pile height in the other areas of the court is sufficient it is possible to resurface these worn areas, thereby adding valuable years to the life of the facility.
